Purpose
The bundle consists of an arm blocker, skull blocker, and harm blocker.
The arm blocker are protective gloves that leave the fingertips open, but cover the hands up to the bicep area. The gloves can be worn by either the person engaging in self-harm, or by staff. Their purpose is to safeguard against biting, scratching, or stabbing. There is an added feature of sensory strips to help calm the agitated individual.
The skull blocker is used when a person is hitting themselves in the head. The staff member holding it can remain behind the individual – and out of sight and out of reach – while blocking the individual’s head from the impact of their own hits. It can also be used when a person is banging their head on objects such as tables, walls, and floors. There is a calming scent released on impact as well as a data counter.
The harm blocker is a large foam square with handles and grips. It is used primarily to protect staff and caregivers from aggression like a shield. It also comes equipped with a built-in counter in order to gather data on the aggression.
All three of these products can be sold to school districts for classroom use, or can be used at home or at residential facilities.

Story Behind the Invention
Inventor Sara Gomez of La Habra, CA has created a bundle that consists of an arm blocker, skull blocker, and harm blocker. These items will protect individuals from hurting themselves and those around them.
Sara works with students who have special needs and are severely impacted. Often these students engage in aggression and self-injury for various reasons. Regardless of the reason, staff needs to protect themselves and the student to the best of their ability. However, this has proven challenging over the years and there have been injuries that have occurred that could have been prevented. Additionally, with so many restraint-related deaths in the nation, restraining students is a last resort. With no specialized equipment for this protective purpose, Sara was inspired to develop the Blocker Bundle! These items will help to prevent injury and trauma to those with special needs as well as the staff and family that take care of them.
